GLIMPSE

Starring: Bisola Aiyeola, Okey Uzoeshi, Emem Ufot

Synopsis:
A christian couple suffers a financial crisis that causes one of them to divert from God’s teachings to an uncharacteristic act.

Review:
Simi and Terfa (Bisola Aiyeola & Okey Uzoeshi) had a strong faith in God. They were married with a young child and all was well except for a money shortage. Simi made just enough for their daughter’s school fees and Terfa was unemployed. As Terfa waited for a side deal to come through, he interviewed unsuccessfully.

Their busybody landlord selfishly raised the rent and as time drew near for it to be paid, Simi suffered a loss in faith and took matters into her own hands.

Let’s Talk. We’ve seen parts of this story before. A couple suffers financial woes and the woman goes out and degrades herself for money. It’s a pretty common storyline but it’s the message that the filmmakers conveyed that was so important.

At the core, it was a lesson in faith. The story reiterates that God is a God of the 11th hour who is always on time. Waiting for God’s time is always best no matter how impatient we become.

Simi (Bisola Aiyeola), the main character, temporarily abandoned her faith and made ill-considered decisions. She suffered regret when God later showed up with all the answers. Speaking of which, it was disturbing to watch a woman demean herself in a time of crisis. Isn’t it a man’s job to bring home the bacon? But in all fairness, the story was based on true events so it is what it is.

It was an emotional movie as we witnessed the couple go from solving financial matters and then having to deal with marital problems.

One of the things that made it work was the believability of Bisola and Okey as a married couple. They were very compatible and they made it easy to become absorbed in their lives.

I must say that after watching Okey Uzoeshi for a number of years, he has grown as a performer. Those that are familiar with my reviews now that I am pro-actor. It takes time to develop the craft and this is a prime example. Not that he was ever horrible; it’s just he wasn’t as good as he is now.

The plot twist at the end made sense of the movie’s title. Also worth mentioning was the music which was inspiring, enjoyable, and well placed.

Audio and video were satisfactory.

This faith-based movie advises against making decisions based on fear. It had a slow start but eventually came together to deliver its principal message. RECOMMEND

Why a 3 star though? Should be 4 at least.
