THE DIARY OF A CRAZY NIGERIAN WOMAN

Starring: Deyemi Okalanwon, Bimbo Ademoye, Abiola Segun-Williams

Synopsis:
Lola and her husband fell upon hard times and relocated to a less favorable neighborhood which prompted an unscrupulous act.

Review:
It was Emeka and Lola (Deyemi Okalanwon & Bimbo Ademoye) against the world but when Emeka lost his job it was a test for their marriage. Emeka failed to confide in his wife the real reason for his job loss which was due to politics involving a woman who was Lola’s adversary.

Their house was foreclosed on and they reluctantly moved to the village. Lola couldn’t get used to the inferior lifestyle and she came up with an underhanded plan to score some money.

Let’s Talk. The title “The Diary of a Crazy Nigerian Woman” did not convey the story it implied. It’s basically about the fall of a well to do couple that had to cope with living life on a budget alongside unsavory neighbors.

Bimbo Ademoye played Lola and in all honesty the character wasn’t that crazy; she was just a normal woman that wanted her life back.

The major hole in the story was that Lola didn’t work. Even with financial pressures she never got the thought to work. It didn’t add up because Lola’s mother spent a fortune on her education so clearly, she wasn’t an invalid. Surely she could have expressed a desire to work instead of the nonsensical idea she put into action for money.

Also, questionable was the scene where Lola confronted Vera, her nemesis. This scene felt fake because Vera, the root of Lola’s problem, appeared intimidated by her. If Vera were that easy to control then she wouldn’t have been a complication in Lola’s life. Again, it didn’t add up.

This is yet another Nollywood movie that didn’t need to be produced.
The climax of the story involved a kidnapping which was not only lame, but an overused idea.

What the movie had going for it were two things: 1 ) the true love between the main couple and 2) it’s performances. The story wasn’t all that but Deyemi and Bimbo were very compatible.

As for technical stuff, video was fine but as usual there were problems with sound. The music was just too loud and interfered with some of the dialogue. Sooo annoying…

Overall? A pointless movie that didn’t live up to expectations. EJECT

I beg to disagree with this review. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it was so funny and very enjoyable to watch. Bimbo and Adeyemo were both great, and Jimmy too. Mama Chibuzor was plain HILARIOUS! The movie is quite different from the usual Nollywood script, kudos to the scriptwriter and the actors.

Hi Ify, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. I agree that the performances were good and I actually loved Bimbo and Deyemi as a couple but for me, the story was so-so. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Sorry, that should have been Deyemi. I have to say though that it’s great to have review websites like these for African movies, always nice to read a second opinion, keep up the great job!

Hi Ify, thanks for the kind words regarding the website. It’s a labor of love. I appreciate African movies more than people realize but I have to share my honest opinion. Of course, we won’t always agree; that’s life but it’s always good to communicate our thoughts and share how we arrived at them. And that’s what this website is for. I welcome all opinions. Warmest Regards and all the best to you.

the movie has its strengh in the lifestyle it portrayed and the individual performances of the actors.
But the storyline is so much lacking in strength and the kinapping part, oh gosh! so unconvincing and unreal, was disappointed at this point
