Title: THE PRICE (1 & 2)

Starring:  Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, JJ Bunny, Kalsoume Sinare, Kofi Adjorlolo

Synopsis

Rabbi and Jack are put in a position to fight for their love when Rabbi’s parents insist she marry another man prearranged for her.

Review:

Jack and Rabbi (Majid Michel & Yvonne Nelson) were a young couple in love but their love was challenged by Rabbi’s parents. Much to her dismay, Rabbi’s parents had already arranged a husband for her. The forced marriage would have generated political gain for her parents but for Rabbi, it would have been a loss of love.

Jack and Rabbi were destined to be together and their relationship proved that no matter what, true love never dies.

Let’s Talk. This is a love story. First off we’ve seen this theme many times before – prearranged marriage while one or both parties yearn for someone else. The difference here is that we see the couple years later when they had aged.

The movie had some chronological errors. As mentioned above, Jack and Rabbi were presented when they were older.  The age progression of Jack was overkill. He looked like he was near death and based on the age of his son, he should have looked significantly younger.

The make-up department simply gave JJ Bunny and Yvonne Nelson gray hair and they instantly became senior citizens – with absolutely no wrinkles. Come to think of it, maybe the filmmakers got it right because you know what they say – “black don’t crack.” Holla!

But seriously, what gives the story depth is the fact that Rabbi’s parents were completely aware that the man they wanted her to marry did drugs and prostitutes. Their political ambition took precedence over the well-being of their daughter which, was a disgrace.

As for technical issues, the picture quality wasn’t the greatest and there was a scene or two with sound issues. Also, when the movie opened up, the title read “Priceless” and not “The Price.” Either there was a name change after the movie was produced or perhaps it’s marketed under both titles.

Performances? Hmm, they were okay – nothing to write home about.

The truth of the matter is that Venus Films has produced some very entertaining movies and “The Price” doesn’t rank among the best of them. What it does have going for it is it’s running time – it’s a short movie by Nolly/Ghally standards. If you don’t get to see “The Price” you won’t be missing much. EJECT
