CLUELESS

Starring: Blossom Chukwujekwu, Desmond Elliott, Uru Eke, Blessing Obasi, Michael Godson

Synopsis:

A couple experiences the complacency of marriage until a wake up call sparks a rekindling of their relationship.

Review:

Ebuka and Ruby, a married couple with two kids, were caught in the monotony of matrimony. Ebuka (Blossom Chukwujekwu) treated Ruby (Blessing Obasi) like a maid by day and a sex machine at night. Evidently, the honeymoon stage was over and the affectionate aspect of their marriage was lost.

Ebuka was a movie producer and while scouting for locations he ran into an old friend that was in the midst of leaving her husband. Her problematic marriage mirrored Ebuka’s marriage and it enabled him to see his own faults.

Another storyline followed Amber (Uru Eke) who was engaged to her boyfriend but married to her career.

Let’s Talk. This is a relationship drama. The main characters were stuck in the rut of marriage and while the wife yearned for her husband’s affection, he was oblivious to her needs.

Ebuka realized his weaknesses through the failure of another marriage which, led to a happy ending, but overall the story was nostalgic. Some of the dialogue was humdrum and there was barely any drama or intrigue to become invested in.

The topic is a valid one because after a number of years, couples tend to feel a level of contentment that leads to laziness. This is why marriage is described as “work” because one has to constantly make an effort to maintain a happy union.

Statistics indicate the fifty percent of marriages end in divorce due to a variety of underlying factors but here the conflict was a mere lack of attention that was fixable with a little communication.

The subplot kicked in with a woman (Uru Eke) who was torn between love and career but at the end of the day it’s really about finding the right balance.

Performances were okay – nothing extraordinary. There were some nice musical choices and the audio/video sufficed.

Clearly, not every idea should be turned into a screenplay. A common theme plus an unimpressive story equals EJECT
