Title: WILD DOG (1 & 2)

Starring: Saint Obi, Clarion Chukwurah, Clem Ohameze

Synopsis: A woman rethinks her marriage when an old flame reenters her life and reignites the past.

Review:

Pamela (Clarion Chukwurah) was a preoccupied woman that often forgot to make arrangements for her young son to be picked up from school. When she ran into an old boyfriend, James (Saint Obi), it didn’t help matters.

James was a good-looking man that spent the last seven years in prison for killing a man in Pamela’s defense. While he was incarcerated and thinking of her everyday, she went on with her life and married Eric (Clem Ohameze).

As for Eric, he was once engaged to Pam’s deceased sister and it was the loss that propelled the two to come together. He became fed up with Pamela’s oblivious behavior and constantly compared her to her late sister which annoyed Pamela, and thus caused tension in the marriage.

With James back on the scene things were about to change. As far as he was concerned, Eric stole Pamela from him and all he wanted was to resume his relationship with her. As he put the moves on Pamela, the idea of true love enticed her. And with a strained marriage to Eric she fell right into James’ arms.

Eric became suspicious when Pamela spent too much time away from home. She realized she didn’t want to lose her marriage and she tried to end the affair with James. James vigorously resisted the break-up and basically, he simply wasn’t having it.

Let’s Talk. This movie is “crazy about you” defined. It’s a fairly simple story but captivating. We have a married couple, the wife cheats and the suspicious husband hires a private detective to trail her. The kicker is that the man the wife is having an affair with has a few loose screws upstairs.

The secret lover, James (Saint Obi), felt that he did prison time because of Pamela and therefore he was entitled to her. All he wanted to do was to pick up their relationship from where it left off seven years ago. The problem came in when he couldn’t accept the fact that she was married to someone else.

The belief that true love never dies caused James to go over the top to be with Pamela. It’s when she tried to break things off that his loony side surfaced. The story itself would have been more compelling if Pamela was in a healthy marriage. Then she would have been truly torn between two loves but her tense marriage made the affair easy to happen.

The movie was slow in some aspects. Some scenes went on a little longer than they needed to but overall it was a basic story that still managed to command attention. The situation ended in a nail-biting stand off with all parties involved including the police.

Writing and direction were satisfactory. I’m not so sure the chemistry between Saint Obi and Clarion Chukwurah was all there but it sufficed. Speaking of Saint Obi…hath thine eyes deceived me or is he one fine man? Hey, just doing a reviewer’s job to report the good, the bad, and the handsome!

Performances? The love triangle worked. Saint Obi, Clarion, and Clem gave good performances but Saint Obi was the star of the show. He nailed his role as the over the edge character and his love and pain was ever so present.

Although we’ve seen loads of marital affairs in movies, “Wild Dog” is certainly worth seeing. RECOMMEND
