VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS

Title: VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS (Full Story)

Starring: Desmond Elliott, Ginnefine Kanu, Veeda Darko, Sana Hassanatu Kanu

Synopsis:

Two friends remain in denial that they’re attracted to each other until they finally come to terms with their feelings.

Review:

Michael and Stacy grew up in Virginia and had been friends since childhood. Even as adults and with “significant others” in their lives, they remained close.

The relationship was always platonic but romance lurked beneath the surface.  Michael attempted to kiss Stacy once but the moment was interrupted. Ever since Stacy stayed clear of any romance between them and they eventually married other people. Closed door? Not quite.

Let’s Talk. This movie explores platonic relationships between men and women. Is there such a thing?  According to this movie, men and women normally harbor romantic feelings.

There’s a scene when Michael made a deposit on a store that Stacy had been vying for her bridal business. This transaction was without his wife’s consent. The real question to be explored is where are the borders in platonic relationships?

Once a couple marries they become one unit. For Michael to make a hefty deposit on real estate for a woman without consulting his wife was inappropriate. Of course, this caused an uproar in his marriage and ultimately a separation.

The writing of the movie came across as unprofessional as there was lots of unnecessary, senseless dialogue. There’s a scene where there’s a physical fight between Michael and Chris (Baba Mohammed) which was silly. Michael caught his wife with Chris in a compromising position at an earlier date but if he didn’t go after him at that point then why go after him with such a vengeance at a later date?

Also, there is an impromptu affair between Kim (Veeda Darko) and Chris which, came out of nowhere and felt contrived, ridiculous, and pointless.

The lighting in this production was horrible and gave the movie an amateur look and feel. Speaking of amateur, some of the acting in this production was definitely subpar.

Of course we know how the story ended – Michael and Stacey finally confessed their love for each other. No surprise there. Although the movie did have some decent moments, thanks to Desmond Elliott, there aren’t enough of them to recommend it.  EJECT
