Review:

“The Search” is a romantic drama where Bolanle (Nse Ikpe-Etim) was in search of the perfect mate. Tara (Rukky Sanda) introduced her to John (Van Vicker) and they dated for a bit but things didn’t work out.

John later realized that he had feelings for Tara and they later become an item. Although Bolanle had moved onto a new relationship, Tara feared letting her know that she was now dating her ex.

Let’s Talk. Is it taboo to date your friend’s ex? That was the topic of this movie. If you’re done with him/her then why can’t your friend date them? Some say it’s awkward and a line you don’t cross. What do you say?

This movie offered a nice contrast with it’s main characters, Tara and Bolanle. While Bolanle was desperate to find the man of her dreams, Tara didn’t believe in committed relationships.

The problem was that the pairing of John with both Bolanle and Tara lacked spark. Also, the audio was problematic at times as there was a motor-like sound heard in the background of some scenes. There was also a scene that was filmed in front of a fountain which was a bad decision. The running water drowned the dialogue.

As for performances. they were satisfactory with Nse Ikpe-Etim as the standout.

Ultimately, the story was slow moving and predictable, however it raised a valid topic as to whether dating your friend’s ex is acceptable. RECOMMEND
