Title: THE KINGDOM (1 & 2)

Sequel #1: KINGDOM OF BEAUTY (1 & 2)

Sequel #2: END OF THE KINGDOM (1 & 2)

AKA: UNDESERVED KING

Starring:  Van Vicker, Clem Ohameze, Tana Adelana

Synopsis:

A handsome man impersonates a Prince as he seeks revenge on those that destroyed his family.

Review:

King Desmond would like nothing more than for one of his daughters to marry Prince Ferguson. Word had it that the Prince was arrogant and barely attractive but he was royalty and that alone spoke for itself.

When he’s invited to the palace to meet the king’s daughters it turns out that the Prince was quite the contrary – handsome, funny, and skillfully charming. But underneath this delightful exterior was an impostor seeking to destroy the kingdom.

Let’s Talk. This is another palace saga with the royal air. There’s a King, a Queen, maidens, cooks, guards, you name it. It was slow moving and stretched into six parts.

In the first part, “The Kingdom” Adam (Van Vicker) made his first move by kidnapping Prince Ferguson. He then seamlessly infiltrated himself into the palace posing as Prince Ferguson without even raising an eyebrow. How convenient that the real Prince Ferguson’s attire fitted him just perfectly.

In this segment there was a lot of time devoted to Judith (Esther Obi), a maiden, who was thrown out of the palace because she spent the night in the Prince’s room.

The story didn’t really catch wind until the first sequel titled “Kingdom of Beauty.”  Here the Prince was beginning to see results from his plan and Okpo (Jibola Dabo), one of the King’s staff, became increasingly suspicious of him.

The series concludes in “The End of the Kingdom” where Adam’s reason for revenge came to light. During this segment there’s a flashback scene, thirty years ago, where the King (Clem Ohameze) and his men arrived at Adam’s house in a Lexus SUV. Fact: Lexus launched their first SUV in 1999, which translates that the Lexus SUV didn’t exist thirty years ago.

It’s doubtful that the Ed Hardy jeans the King wore in the scene existed thirty years ago as well. A little research would have made this scene authentic.

To conclude, this isn’t Michael Jaja’s best screenplay and six parts is a bit much. The ending was obvious at the moment Adam rested his gun on the table.

Despite its faults, “The Kingdom” is an attractive movie and managed to keep an audience watching whether due to majestic appeal, suspense, Van Vicker’s allure, or perhaps all of the above.

This movie is also known as “Undeserved King.”
