TAMED

Starring: John Dumelo, Chelsea Eze, Clarion Chukwura, Jibola Dabo

Synopsis:
The troubled siblings of a prominent family unite to learn the contents of their father’s will.

Review:
With wealth came problems and the Williams family paid millions to protect their image.   Death was near for the wheelchair bound Chief Williams and he invited his children to dinner to share the contents of his will.

All the siblings showed up and tried their best to hide their problematic lives. Jeff (John Dumelo), the son, was a player of the worst kind and his sisters were no better off as Celia (Chelsea Eze) was a socialite hooked on drugs and Stephanie (Tana Adelana) suffered domestic abuse. Little did they know, Chief Williams was not only older, but wiser, and he remained two steps ahead of them.

Let’s Talk. This is a drama centered on siblings that were beneficiaries of a will. They hadn’t lived up to their life’s potential, especially coming from a wealthy family, but they put their best face forward for appearances sake.

This type of drama isn’t new. “Turn Me On” and “In the Cupboard” are similar stories and although this movie was soap opera like, it boasted distinct characters and the genuine aura of a wealthy yet imperfect family.

The story reiterated that money doesn’t necessarily solve problems; in fact it often creates more. As the family spent overdue time together, money couldn’t protect them from the secrets and lies that affected them.

At the end, the filmmakers incorporated a message about rape but the topic was more the backdrop of the movie. The story suggested that the rape victim marry her rapist which seemed to contradict the message. Why would a rape victim want to marry the man who violated her?

Also inconceivable, without giving the story away, was that the rapist and victim didn’t recognize each other when they came face to face. Hmm… A very hard pill to swallow.

Performances were decent. Chelsea Eze emerged as a notable performer whose character was a drug user trapped in circumstances that she helped to create. She didn’t play the lead but her character should have had a better storyline.

Sound was problematic is some scenes. Dialogue was either scratchy and squeaky or hard to hear because of background music.

This movie probably won’t make your top ten but the family dynamics along with performances made it attractive enough to watch. RECOMMEND
